How To Make Your Videos More Clickable
Nothing will help your YouTube strategy more than having consistent, valuable content, but if you’re looking for those hacks to get a little extra push, here are 6 ways to make your videos more clickable:
Yellow:
Studies show the color yellow makes people click more! There’s a reason “add to cart” is so often yellow on shopping pages, like Amazon. If a true yellow doesn’t fit your aesthetic, try going for gold, beige or just generally warm tones.
Odd Numbers:
Try titles like “5 ways to….”, “3 reasons you should…”, “7 looks for….”, etc. Any kind of list title seems to get more clicks but especially odd numbers!
Before and Afters / Transformations:
Humans love a good transformation! You can show transformations in the thumbnail with the “before” on one side and the “after” on the other. In my experience, it’s ok to reveal the after on the thumbnail rather than blur it out. It’s so small in the thumbnail that people will want to click and see the full version in the video. You can also use transformation words in the titles like “Before and After” or words like “results,” “reveal,” “one year later” or “the final look.”
Dates (Month, Year):
Studies show simply adding the month and year in parenthesis at the end of your video increases clicks by 20%!
How To’s:
Everyone loves a good tutorial, but you can use these titles creatively even if your video isn’t a full traditional tutorial. Maybe you could insert a section in your day-in-the-life vlog where you talk about your organizational system and then you can title it “How To Stay Organized As A Content Creator + A Day In My Life.”
Half Searchable, Half Clickable Titles:
We’ll talk more on Search Engine Optimization in another post soon, but it will really help to create videos and titles using keywords that will show up in search… On the other hand, if you already have a pretty big fan base, sometimes the “searchable” titles are boring and another title would be more clickable. I recommend splitting it in half and doing both! Put the clickable title at the front, but include the “searchable” words at the end, even if they’ll get cut off, just to boost it in search. For example, for a big hair cut transformation, try “Finally revealing my big change… (Rose Gold Hair Using oVertone Honest Review).”
